The Fixx - Reach the Beach

The Fixx had long been on my radar as one of those bands who had some radio songs I've loved for as long as I can remember. I'm talking back to about the time One Thing Leads to Another and Saved By Zero were current, chart-topping singles circa 1983. I know, I was born in '76 so I would have been seven at the time. I used to sleep with a little transistor radio and those two Fixx songs along with The Clash's Rock the Casbah, John Cougar Heartattack's Jack and Dianne and all things Huey Lewis stick out in my memory (not a JCM fan, but that song holds an intrinsic nostalgic value because of that). Anyway, a couple years ago I found the album those Fixx songs are on - Reach the Beach - on vinyl at a thrift store. I bought it and it has grown in favor ever since. I've come to love the entire record, the title track above is one of my absolute favs though. There's something very John Carpenter about it.

And I've gotta say, I'm a Ti West fan as is and after waiting something like three years for his masterful House of the Devil I was not disappointed. And the thing that really just added an extra layer of pleasure in watching it the first time was the unexpected use of One Thing Leads to Another. Awesome as always Mr. West!!!

Greg Rucka, Michael Lark and Santi Arcas have a new book published by Image Comics. Read my two cents on it in  Thee Comic Column #47 on Joup.

Machete Kills New Trailer

If it's half as insane as the first one, I'm going to be very happy. Rodriquez has a knack for making old school action flicks choked full of Grind House logic. He would have ruled the 80's.

TV on the Radio - TLZ

Loved this song the first time I heard it, day the album was released as I opened my old store early, had another manager sell it to me and then sat in the office counting out drawers and giving it a once over. Loved it even more when it was used in the closing sequence/credits of Breaking Bad Season 2, episode 10.

7 days going on 6.

Countdown bitch.

Live (re-cast) Lollapalooza streaming right now

Obviously not really live streaming, but still. Not sure how long this will be re-playing or who will be playing when you hit play, but it could be interesting at the very least.

The Mormons Bandcamp

Just turned on to this band via a new friend. Fucking awesome! Obvious Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid fans. I flew over to their bandcamp (where you can buy their new Forge Ahead E.P.) and immediately fell in love with The Mormons. If you're in LA their playing the Five Star Bar in DTLA on Friday, August 16th with The Sundowners, Infer Stellar and Arbuckle.

The Conspiracy Trailer

The first I heard of this movie was just a few moments ago on Bloody Disgusting. Go here and you will find considerably more information. But not only does this look great in an almost Eyes Wide Shut-meets-Blair Witch Project fashion, but it directly spins off of a conversation I JUST HAD LIKE AN HOUR AGO.

Weird. Just saying.
