NIN full set Reading Festival

I found this via Gigwise. I'm excited for the new record but not entirely positive I like some of the newer versions of older songs (Sanctified in particular) that I've been seeing in live sets that have popped up on the youtubes. I'm not saying their bad - I just happen to have an insanely protective relationship with Pretty Hate Machine and can't help but want to only hear the songs - or at least a song like Sanctified which is probably my favorite on the record - exactly as I know them. I fully understand that's my hang-up, not Reznor's problem. We'll see. I'm still really behind this band. I've loved them since Pretty Hate Machine came out and showed me the first glimpses of a poppier industrial sound (compared to Ministry's The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste PHM is poppier) and with the exception of not really ever caring too much for The Downward Spiral and The Fragile (both of which I've come back around to a bit in recent years) I think Reznor has had an amazing career thus far.

And I also think that career is far from over.

If you follow the link to Gigwise above they have some fantastic pictures up of the concert.

New Cat Rapes Dog from "Life Was Sweet"

One of my best mates, a man I like to call Monsieur Viderstrom introduced me to Cat Rapes Dog many years ago and has since generously kept me into their rekkids. He texted me last week that the first track off CRD's forthcoming "Life Was Sweet" had hit the youtubes but I've continuously forgotten about it. Things have been a bit pear-shaped and as such I've not had the attention span to continue to work a full timer, work on my novel and see to a suddenly fairly fertile period of song-writing for Christian Fisting's (hopefully) soon to be announced Free Digital E.P. Anyway, I've gotten a lot done in the last few days in all corners and as such I'm taking periodic breaks in writing tonight to get back into posting. So here's that new Cat Rapes Dog. God Hates Christians.

David Lynch - Star Dream Girl

You know, I really want him to do another film, but I'm pretty damn happy with him releasing music every two years.

Boards of Canada - Palace Posy (Tomorrow's Harvest)

Last week I completely forgot that the new Boards of Canada had come out. Well, scratch that, what I'd completely forgot was that June 18th had come and gone. Where the hell did June go? Anyway thanks to my good friend Jacob I received a copy over the weekend and pretty much haven't stopped listening to it since. If anything can derail a Godflesh binge, it's new Boards of Canada.

Palace Posy is one of my favorite tracks. There's something regal about the way it moves, but also a bit dancy. Also, it reminds me a bit of Badly Drawn Boy, but I'm not sure what track (and I only know two records' worth of his music). Welcome to the Overground maybe?

New Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know

This band is just really, really good. The new song apparently dropped in the middle of the night last night and Gigwise has a great 'What's to expect from the new record' piece here.

New Moderat Single to drop 7/12...

... on Monkeytown Records.

AHHH!!!! Why must we wait until July when the album is out a month after that?

I'm being a dick. It's kind of cool that they're playing this so close to the chest, what with a lot of the advance marketing we've seen for album releases this year. I'm just REALLY looking forward to new Moderat, as I've been listening to the first album again A LOT for the last two months or so. While we wait, here's one of the tracks of said first album. This song sounds like the night:

New Track by The Neighbourhood - West Coast

Wow. Old School G-Funk? Really? I only have time to listen to it once (449am - gotta go gotta go). It might work though...

I've really fallen in love with The Neighbourhood's first single "Sweater Weather" - just waiting to see if KROQ (which is usually on often in the shared space at work when I don't have my iPod on) beats it to death for me. If you missed that one, give it two or three listens - me thinks it will grow on you.

Dillinger Escape Plan - Sunshine the Werewolf

In honor of their new record, One of Us is the Killer, dropping tomorrow I do proclaim this week Dillinger Escape Plan week (I guess I should have started it yesterday, but if you work for a living Monday's really the start of the week, isn't it?).

I'll be posting clips all week my friends. Starting with this gnarly live one of Sunshine the Werewolf from 2004's Miss Machine, the band's first album with Greg Puciato as lead vocalist (former singer Dimitri Minakakis left after 1999's MASTERPIECE Calculating Infinity). Is this my favorite track on Miss Machine? I don't rightly know, but I love it dearly.

2 New Queens of the Stone Age Tracks via CoS

Queens of the Stone Age - I Appear Missing Video... kinda

Video for, um... 3 minutes of a new Queens song that is actually 6 minutes long. SO, I'm not sure if the video is parsed like the song and there's more a'coming, or if this is a promotional thing. Either way, NEW QUEENS!!!

Once again, I'm re-posting via Brooklyn Vegan, read what the masters have to say about this here.

The Ocean - Pelagial

So I've put down the Slayer for a bit (couldn't find my original cassette copy of Seasons in the Abyss so I had to walk away for a while) and started my first pass through the new album by The Ocean, Pelagial. It is incredible. The concept for the album is just mind-blowing, especially when you listen to it and realize they pulled it off. From their (awesome) website:

The concept of the album is made evident in its title, Pelagial. Listeners will be further submersed as they journey with the band, beginning at the surface of the ocean and plunging through all five pelagic depth zones: epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyalpelagic, abyssopelagic, and hadopelagic. In synch with diminishing light and increasing pressure as one dives or sinks deeper into the ocean, the album begins rather light and progressively gets heavier and slows as the band reaches the unfathomable depths of the hadopelagic zone, characterized by complete darkness and a thousandfold increased pressure as compared to surface level. What is remarkable about Pelagial is that this is not some detached conceptual idea; this can actually be heard and felt while listening to the album.

New Tricky: Nice.

I'm not going to lie, I LOVE Maxinquaye, but a lot of the other Tricky I've heard has not interested me at all. Granted, I haven't investigated everything the man has put out, but I tend to prefer the leanings of his one time collaborator extraordinaire Martina Topley-Bird's stuff. But it's been a great day for new release info and I had to click on Brooklyn Vegan's post about False Idols, the forth-coming Tricky record. So far, I'm digging what I'm hearing. Go to the mighty Vegan's post here to listen to another new song, but first here's one of my favorites off the aforementioned Maxinquaye. Oh yeah, go to Tricky's facebook page here and download Tribal Drums for free!!!

Secret Board of Canada Links and... an album title???

They're set to private, so I couldn't embed them here, but follow these links: One and Two and you'll hear more of Boards of Canada fucking with us. I'm hearing complaints but I'm LOVING this; someone has found a way to bring the mystery back to album releases {props again to QOTSA on their recent weirdness as well, but this is out-mystiquing them BIG TIME at this point}. And speaking album releases, the speculation at present is the new record may be named Cosecha. What? Where'd that come from? Read all about the research going on to keep on top of this stuff on Exclaim! - it's fascinating!
