Pearl Jam - Porch on SNL 1992

I'd never seen this before. Not the biggest Pearl Jam fan - love first and most of the second record, pretty much stopped after that. I've always respected them as a band though, even if it's a once in a blue moon event for me to actually throw one of those two records on to listen to.

Until recently. I spoke about the reasons why I am currently indoctrinating myself with music from my high school years in this week's edition of The Joup Friday Album. Both those first two PJ records fit into that, especially the first one and especially this song. I got chills watching this a minute ago, so I had to jot it down here for posterity's sake. Enjoy.

What's That Smell" by mindexpands

How have I never known this existed? Many great and hallowed thanks to my good friend Ray for turning me on to this.

TV Funhouse

Probably the most fucked up, awesome show EVER. It's not really a surprise that this didn't go more than 8 episodes. Watching these puppets snort Christmas Cheer and assault unwitting passersby with their obnoxious caroling is just... disturbing. In the best possible way of course.

Mr. Brown ordered the set of both TV Funhouse and the best of TV Funhouse SNL and had them sent to my house. I'm sitting here with a pint enjoying the warped, twisted genius of Mr. Robert Smigel. Has it really been 13 freakin' years since this was on the air? Good lord...

god bless us Robert Smigel, each and every one of us.

More Ian Rubbish, SNL Season Finale, 5/18/13

This is the first thing from SNL in decades that I really dig. I have no idea who the cast member is that plays him - I've obviously seen his name now a couple times but I just don't retain it because I'm wholly unfamiliar with the cast in general. And in Rubbish's case I'd like to keep it that way. I'm more interested at this point in seeing what this particular fiction suit does in the world at large, now that Ian Rubbish has come into a real world context by releasing a free ep (get it here) and being booked to open for the likes of Vampire Weekend in the Steve Buscemi-directed concert.
