RIP Vivian Trimble

Easily my favorite Luscious Jackson track from an album that is almost all 'favorite tracks.'

I haven't even thought of this group in years; hearing about Vivian Trimble's death at age 59 immediately made me want to hear this song.

Watch:

Jim Rugg and Ed Piskor's Cartoon Kayfabe has quickly become one of my favorite shows on youtube. I've spent a lot of time in the past two weeks hanging out listening to them interview a wide spectrum of creators, and when I woke up this morning and saw Richard Corben is their latest, I got pretty damn excited.

A living legend, Corben is. Super cool to hear him talk with these guys about the industry and what makes him "him."

Playlist:

Bettye LaVette - Let Me Down Easy: Bettye LaVette in Memphis
Godflesh
Godflesh - Post Self
Crystal Castles - II
Luscious Jackson - Fever In Fever Out

New Luscious Jackson Record!!!

Another insanely busy week - so busy that I almost completely forgot that I read about a new Luscious Jackson record on Brooklyn Vegan (their article on it right here) at some point earlier in the week! How the hell could I forget about that? Good thing the weekend sometimes allows me to collect my thoughts and re-examine a lot of the stuff I read in quick, passing bursts throughout the week when I can steal a moment or three.

When Luscious Jackson called quits it hurt. And even though we got the wonderful Jill Cunniff solo record City Beach there was no way it was going to be enough to quell the sting from losing the band that put out Fever In Fever Out and Electric Honey, two fine examples of main ingredient funk, synth and straight up pop. The news of a brand new album is pretty much from out of left field to me and makes me very, very happy.

The new Luscious Jackson album is titled Magic Hour and it will be released on November 5th via their own City Song record label.

Z-Rock Hawaii

Earlier in the week Mr. Brown sent me a text alerting me to the fact that Dick Trickle passed. He spurred me to dig into the Ween catalogue and pump Stroker Ace - the song that really is the only reason why I know who Mr. Trickle was. This put Ween back in my thoughts, and led to my breaking out some White Pepper as I lay around reading on this lazy afternoon. While browsing through my nearly twenty Ween CD's (proper releases, odds-n-sods assemblies I made back during the Napster days and all of their Chocodog releases. I think the only two things I'm missing is, inexcusably, the proper 12 Golden Country Greats - which I always forget I'm missing until I go to listen to it because I have a demo version - and the Kostars record they contributed to with members of Luscious Jackson) and I come across Z-Rock Hawaii, the record the Ween Brothers made back in the day with Japanese insanity enclave The Boredoms. The entire thing is a masterpiece from a different world, but these are my two favorite songs from it.

Luscious Jackson - Under Your Skin

So not a fan of these type of videos that show the band playing, but I LOVE this song and the album it is on.
