Ghost B.C. Papaganda Episode 2

Published almost two months ago I'm not sure how I missed this one. Well, actually yes I am. I've been so consumed with the end stages of writing my novel that I've not really paid attention to anything else. Well, besides comics.

At any rate, Infestissumam remains in regular rotation on my record player and the more of these guys I see the more I genuinely like them. Usually this much 'behind the scenes' would have a negative impact on a band so 'steeped in mystery' but I really think Ghost are musical and marketing geniuses, or at least the employee one of the latter.

Had a feeling this was coming back several months ago, then it just kinda didn't and I became distracted. So I owe special thanks to Heaven is an Incubator for posting this a little while ago. You can get it on iTunes or better yet a record store if you happen to have one of those anywhere near you. Or you can order it directly from the band here where it's pretty much dirt cheap ($12 bucks for the vinyl before shipping!!!).

Four covers (Depeche Mode, Roky Erickson, Army of Lovers and the ABBA song Marionette in case you missed the special edition of Infestissumam) rounded out with a live version of Secular Haze. Produced by Dave Grohl. And Satan.

Ghost - Papaganda Episode One: The Olde One

My good friend Tori is the one who turned me on to Ghost back when Opus Eponymous was released. I dug the album but there was something that kept me from really loving it. There seemed to be a certain... I don't know if lethargy is the exact right word, but it's the word I always think of when I listen to or contemplate that album. When the hype started for the band's second album, this year's Infestissumam Tori told me she thought the band had switched singers. This intrigued me, however once the album came out and I found that it did everything so much better than the previous one did I found it hard to reconcile the idea of the singer having been changed. Well, unless this is an elaborate hoax - which it might be - this video show's that Tori was completely correct.

Ghost BC - Secular Haze

I'm so wrapped up in this ghost record right now that I'm revisiting a lot of the tracks and images released in the lead-up to it. I realized I never posted this one.

This and Nick Cave and the Bad Seed's Push the Sky Away are easily going to rank in my top ten of the year.

Ghost BC - Stream Infestissumam

Pitchfork has had this up for at least a week, but after going to metal sucks and seeing this handy dandy little spotify widget at the tail end of a post with highlights from the band's recent Reddit AMA, I had to add it here as well. I received my copy of Infestissumam today via my lovely wife and it really is wonderful. I like it better than the first record, Opus Eponymous. Really great and the final track, Monstrance Clock, is vying for my favorite on the record (at this time). Here's what metal sucks quoted wikipedia for definition of Monstrance Clock:

"The Monstrance clock, or mirror clock, developed during the Renaissance. The monstrance was a cross-shaped gold or silver vessel which played an important part in church ritual and often incorporated sacred figures as part of the design. The clock made use of a rotating ball at the top or in the base to indicate the time of day. Monstrance clocks and crucifix clocks remained fashionable until the eighteenth century."
