Gwar - Stalin's Organs

One week ago on the 23rd of March was the tenth anniversary of Dave Brockie's death. A decade. That's nearly a third of how old 1995's Ragnarok is. I wanted to do something to commemorate Oderus Urungus's exile from our slovenly realm, but I was in the middle of Man Man week, and posting this past week has been tenuous at best. Anyway, we miss you, Oderus. Earth hasn't been salaminized since you went away, and I'm sure a lot of the folks who read this page would agree that we could really use it right about now.

Watch:

I was on the fence about this one, but seeing a post by Beyondfest earlier today, I bought tickets for tomorrow afternoon:

I think I have a phobia of Catholic Horror - weird because I wasn't raised Catholic, although I did attend the odd service as a kid. But there's just something icky about all the pageantry and regalia. This is getting a lot of word of mouth, and a lot of that is making Sydney Sweeney look like a philanthropist for getting a film that has apparently been languishing unmade for over twenty years. I have no idea who she is, but I'm definitely intrigued. Perfect weekend, too.

DwC:

Mike Shinabargar and I started a new show! Drinking with Comics Presents: DRUNK on ENERGON!

Once again, I had a lot of fun with this one. I'm absolutely in love with Kirkman's take on these properties, and it gives me great joy to sit around and discuss them with my oldest friend from the Realm of  Comic Shops!

• Page of Swords
• Kind of Swords
• Two of Swords

This makes PERFECT sense. I have felt like fighting EVERYONE for the last few days, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Gwar you there, god? It's me, Margaret

Oh man, how did I miss this last July? Would have come in handy.

NCBD:

Here's what I'll be picking up today for New Comic Book Day:

I'm pretty excited about this new Daniel Warren Johnson Beta Ray Bill series.

Deadly Class returns! What's more, issue 45 bumps the timeline up to 1991 - notice Marcus' shirt - and I can't wait to see how Rick Remender handles the era of my own teenage years.

Two hyphenated superheroes? Man-Thing and Spider-Man, seeing as how I've really been digging Spidey again and Man-Thing is an all-time favorite, this should equal a win-win for me.

Two Moons is dark, proto-American West Horror tied into Native American folklore. What more do I have to say, other than so far, I love it.

Belbury Poly - The Gone Away

Zombi - Cosmos

My old friend, The Fool. He's never too far away, is he? The voice of inexperience and novelty, a reminder that everything old is new again, and sometimes you have to look beyond your routines to make any progress.

Gwar Cover Billy Ocean's Get Out of My Dreams

Not quite as epic as their version of Kansas' Carry on but pretty gnarly nonetheless. RIP Oderus!

RIP Gwar's Oderus Urungus

I took today off from work to celebrate my day of birthing with a few extra hours of that ever-disappearing natural resource we all take for granted - Sleep. When I woke up around 8:30 AM (yeah, that's sleeping in four whole hours for me) a text came through from Mr. Brown that informed me Oderus Urungus, the lead-singer of Gwar, had died yesterday.

Talk about the reverse of a birthday present.

Gwar - Madness at the Core of Time Official Video!!!

I'm pretty sure Gwar is the only band who has continued to play straight-up 80's thrash metal since... well, since the 80's. I saw them live once back in what I think was the late 90's at Chicago's Riviera Theatre. It was divine. Very much like what you see in the video above, but without the safe distance of a computer screen between me and the giant blood-spewing monstrosities you see above. A stroke of genius to 'preview' the madness at the core of their live show in the video.

Lordi Lordi Lordi

This is funny as hell. I wasn't able to watch the entire interview, not much of it at all really, but I laughed my ass off just watching the every day mannerisms of these guys in their costumes. The guy on the couch RULES!!! Lordi obviously wear the Gwar influence on their sleeve but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I know nothing about Lordi, though I've seen their name a million times. I found this interview on Blabbermouth followed by the video for a track off their new album. Not too bad as bombastic anthem metal is concerned, though it's not really my thing. It seemed well worth posting though, just for the entertainment value:

And as long as we're doing this, let's go for some Gwar as well:
