Watch:

After rewatching Scream 2 and seeing part 3 for the first time back in October, I have to say, everything but the original seems like they are most definitely not for me. The franchise feels like Friends with a murder. Because of this, it was with great reluctance I went to see part 5 a few days ago.  But lo and behold, Radio Silence turned in a really fun, gory AF flick that I had a blast with. And they manage to make "Meta" interesting again.

This card is so where I'm at right now. So many distractions and I'm finding it impossible to concentrate. I've upped my daily meditation regiment for the next few days after missing the last few, and knuckling down on enforcing mental discipline.

I have heard many good things about Channel Zero and it hits Shudder today, so I'm looking forward to that.



Not sure if I mentioned this before, but I recently started a re-watch of Deadwood, as K has never seen it and the news of the forthcoming movie caused quite a stir in me. I've begun re-watches before, but never made it very far. Thus, I've actually seen the first season enough to know a lot of it intimately. What's my favorite scene?



Al Swearengen may just be my favorite character ever. As dark as the show can be, it keeps a smile on my face almost the entire time.

New Sandman Universe #1 acquired and read, although it wasn't a very good read, rife with distractions as it was (my own fault). A good set-up for what is to come, which I must admit I'm still excited about. I've avoided this whole Doomsday Clock thing that has merged the Watchmen with the DCU proper - I'm not necessarily against the idea of the Watchmen being placed in the DCU, I just don't really care and have heard it's not very good. The Sandman Universe however, is apparently something I cannot ignore.

Card of the day:

So this is either me suffering from wishful thinking that Please Believe Me will be finished today - I just can't seem to nail the tone for the end of this but I am so close!!! - or it's a problem of over imagination, which could be gumming up the works on the ending. Either way, I have some work cut out for me today.

Over on Joup I have just posted my thoughts on what was an amazing show that changed how I view music. I know I've talked a lot about him here lately but I simply cannot recommend Tristan Shone's music enough. It is the first of its kind and something truly different in a world where different is increasingly impossible.

Wrekmeister Haromonies

Heading out to LA's Echoplex to see Author & Punisher, Corrections House and Wrekmeister Harmonies in a little while. I had never heard of Wrekmeister before, and it was by sheer luck I happened to remember that there was a third band on tonight's bill and, you know, I should probably do a little research before heading out so I knew what I was in store for.

Man am I glad I did that research. I would hate to think that I could have missed this, Chicago's J.R. Robinson's installation-like project you can read all about on Invisible Oranges here (great article by Brad Sanders, btw).

 Author and Punisher's Women and Children is soooo going to be in my top ten of the year. "Melee" just swells with menace. THIS is the definition I've always had in my head for industrial music.

Via Metal Sucks. This reminds me very much of Gub-era Pigface at the start, then it just deteriorates into a hellish plasma of primordial anguish. I don't always dig Author & Punisher - that's not quite the correct way to say it. The man's music simply requires a very specific state of mind for me to get into it. But when I get into it, it's like a bottomless pit - one of the only current artists I would consider to be carrying on and adding to the Industrial genre.
